An official request to citizens not .to give beer or other gifts to members of the A.I.F. was issued by the Eastern Command headquarters. Officers declined to say whether people who gave beer to the jroops would be prosecuted and finedA as happened on a similar occasion in New. Zealand. It is learned, however, that no instructions for such action have been given in the Eastern Command.
