PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT ASTOUNDED AT FRENCH AMBASSADOR’S STATEMENT. REGARDING ATTITUDE OF GOVERNMENTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) WASHINGTON, October 2. President Roosevelt told the Press that the Government has not been advised officially concerning the Vichy Government’s plans to strengthen Martinique, When informed of the statement of M. Henry Haye (French Ambassador) regarding the similarity of the two Governments’ viewpoints. President Roosevelt was utterly astonished and said he had not believed the Ambassador had made the statement.
