PETROL FOR SHEARERS
AS IN EMERGENCIES OF SICKNESS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A suggestion that shearers who have cars of their own shduld be granted an extra allowance of petrol during the shearing season was made by Mr Kidd (Opposition, Waitaki), in the House of Representatives yesterday in a question. The Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, replied that instructions had already been issued that where suitable public transport was not available workmen were to be supplied with sufficient petrol to enable' them to carry out their work. The Government had already announced that in the rationing of petrol the needs of increased production would be recognised, and special consideration would be given in the cases of shearers. Mr Kidd also asked the Minister whether he intended to make an extra allowance of petrol available to people living in country districts who required urgent medical attention. Mr Sullivan replied: “Instructions have already been issued to all postmasters that in cases requiring urgent medical attention sufficient supplies of petrol are to be made available. Where the farmer has not enough petrol to journey to the nearest postmaster the matter may be arranged by telephone.”
