IN SYRIA ITALY & GERMANY SEEKING FIRMER GRIP. EXTENSION OF PROPAGANDA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 1. It is reported from Cairo that fresh and far-reaching demands have been made on the French authorities in connection with Syria. These are aimed to give Italy and Germany a firmer grip of Syria, and include authority for German propagandists to return to Syria and Lebanon, authority for the Italians to publish a newspaper in Beirut and the publication of German and Italian communique sin the Syrian Press.
