Mr Will Appleton has been re-elect-ed chairman of the Board of Governors of the Wellington Technical College. The Rev. R. W. Fursdon has retired from Chenies Baptist Church, Bucks, after a pastorate of 34 years, and intends coining to New Zealand, where he will join his son, who is now minister of Dunedin Baptist Church and president of the Baptist Union of New Zealand.

The death occurred at the Home of Compassion, Island Bay, on Sunday night last of Mother Mary De Chantal, of the Brigidine community, Johnsonville. The late Mother De Chantal was 37 years of age, and had been in ill health for some time. She was well known in Masterton and Johnsonville.

A large number of friends gathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. McNab, Dixon Street, Masterton, last evening, at a farewell party which was given in honour of their son, Robert, who left this afternoon for Burnham Camp. Many games were played and songs enjoyed. All joined in wishing the guest of the evening God speed and a safe return.

An old colonist of Wellington, Mr George Dunsmore Mason, died recently at the age of 86. Born in Perth, Scotland, Mr Mason arrived in New Zealand in 1877. In 1880. Mr Mason married Miss Elizabeth Ann McLagan in Blenheim, where he was in business as a watchmaker and jeweller. With the exception of about five years in Blenheim and Reefton Mr Mason spent the whole of his life after coming to New Zealand in Wellington. A well-known identity of Port Ahuriri for about 55 years, Mr Patrick Hayden, has died at the age of 80. He arrived in New Zealand in 1885. He went to Napier to enter the firm of his uncle, Mr John Hayden, proprietor of one of the largest contracting and carrying businesses in Napier at that time. After gaining experience with other carrying firns he later joined Messrs Ellison and Duncan, with whom he remained for 25 years. He retired from business about 12 years ago.
