WINNER OF BUILDING SECTION TICKET DRAWN BY MRS JORDAN. AREA REDONATED FOR ANOTHER RAFFLE. “I am going right to the bottom ci : the bag,” said the Mayoress, Mrs T. Jordan, last night, when drawings ticket to decide the winner of a building section in College Street, donated by Mr W. Nops, of Masterton, in aid of the Provincial Patriotic Fund. Mrs Jordan plunged her hand right into the bag, grasped a ticket and displayed the name of her husband as the winner of the raffle, the ticket number being 956. 1 Mr Jordan announced this morning that he was donating the section for another raffle in aid of the Provincial Patriotic Fund, the tickets to be not more than Is each. Mr Jordan himself selected the section, which was one of several owned by Mr Nops, who had suggested that they should be inspected and the best one chosen for the raffle. Mr Jordan and Mr Nops bought a book of tickets each and each transferred half to the other. The winning ticket was among those retained by Mr Jordan in his book. At the drawing of the raffle last night, it was proposed that the Mayor should make the draw, but he declined as he himself held tickets. He asked for offers for his tickets, however, but there was no bid. Mrs Jordan then drew the winning ticket. Altogether, about 2000 tickets were sold, the proceeds amounting to £274 2s 6d.
