LADIES’ HOCKEY

KNOCK-OUT COMPETITIONS. EXCELSIOR DEFEAT GREYTOWN. The competition for the Kia Toa Cup among senior ladies’ teams was commenced last Saturday. Six teams entered, and the three games played provided some very keen and exciting hockey. Excelsior had a narrow win over Greytown by 1 goal to nil. The local team had much the better of the first half, but failed to take full advantage of their opportunities, and were only 1 up at the interval. Greytown showed improved form in the second spell and did more of the attacking, but the defence of both sides was very strong, and no further score was re-

corded. Carterton defeated College A by 3 goals to 2 after a very close game, the winning goal being scored right on time. Another close game was that between Te Ore Ore and Old Girls, the former winning by 4 goals to 2. JUNIOR KNOCK-OUT. CUP WON BY EXCELSIOR. The final of the junior knock-out competition for the Morris Cup was played between Excelsior and College A. Excelsior played good hockey and scored an unexpectedly easy win by 6 goals to 1.
