CAR CONVERSION
SOLDIER SENT TO GAOL. WARNING THAT WENT UNHEEDED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A sentence of three months’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., on a soldier, Robert Harold Russell, aged 19, for unlawful conversion of a car. The police stated that accused missed the last train to Trentham on Saturday night and took the car from the Hotel Waterloo. The owner of the car claimed that three gallons of petrol had been used and that the car had travelled at least 120 miles. The car was damaged to the extent of approximately £25.
Mi - Stout said the accused, who was before the Court in Christchurch a week ago for a similar offence, had had a warning.
