A NEW HOME

EVACUEE CHILDREN FROM BRITAIN. ARRIVAL IN MASTERTON. The arrival in Masterton this morning of a party of children evacuated from Britain for the duration of the war emphasises the need of further offers from local residents to find homes for other children who may be arriving. Residents who are in a position to provide homes for children coming to New Zealand under this scheme are urged to forward their names and addresses without delay to the Town Clerk, Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith. The party which reached Masterton this morning was met at the railway station by the Mayoress. Mrs T. Jordan, Mrs L. B: Maunsell, representing the League of Mothers, Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith, Mr J. J. Hercock, Child Welfare Officer, and the foster parents. The children were in charge of Miss Mdry Frazer, of Glasgow, who is the guest of Mrs Maunsell during her stay in Masterton.

After proceeding to the Town Hall the children and their foster parents were given a buffet lunch, provided by a committee of the League of Mothers, at the residence of Mr and Mrs R. Page, Essex Street. A photograph was taken of the group. All the children reaching Masterton this morning are Scottish and their chief concern was to see if there were any hills in the district, as these would remind them of their own country.
