OFF TO CAMP

MEN LEAVING THIS WEEK BIG BATCH ON THURSDAY. DEPARTURE ARRANGEMENTS REVISED. Arrangements regarding the despatch of recruits from Masterton and district have been completely revised. In future there is to be no civic sendoff prior to the men leaving the Drill Hall for the station. The men will fall in at the Drill Hall from which the public will be excluded, and will march to the station headed by a band. At the station the men will remain in formation and will march into the carriages. In order to assist in the arrangements, the public is requested to give its co-operation. No liquor will be allowed to be taken on a train. It is pointed out that the men proceeding to camp are often back again on leave in. a week or so and there is consequently no need for any farewells. In any case, a civic dinner and public gathering is tendered to the men on a later occasion.

These arrangements will be followed in the despatch of men proceeding to camp this week. The principal batch of over a hundred will leave Masterton on Thursday by the afternoon mail train for Trentham. These men will fall in at the Drill Hall at 1.15 p.m. and will march off for the station, headed by the Wairarapa College Pipe Band, at 1.30 p.m. Other men will leave Masterton for camp on Wednesday, a party of 12 for Burnham Camp by the 2 p.m. mail train for Wellington and a party of 11 for Papakura Camp by the 6 p.m. northward bound rail-car.

All men, except those exempted from service by the Man Power Committee, must attend. The men will be in charge of Captain R. J. Fowler and the entraining officer will be Captain A. W. Reynolds. The Territorials will leave the Drill Hall at 10.40 a.m. for the station, headed by the Wairarapa College Pipe Band, and will entrain on the 11.15 a.m. Woodville mail train.
