COSY THEATRE

“HELL’S CARGO.” Again the sea is the stage for a tremendously thrilling picture, and “Hell’s Cargo,” to be shown tonight at the Cosy Theatre, provides some of the most realistic action seen for many a long day. An unusual story bristling with intense action is found in “Hell’s Cargo.” It is superbly acted and the scenes are exceptionally thrilling and interesting, the photography being outstanding. Three naval officers, British, French and Russian, are aboard a French destroyer sent to detain a merchantman who has left an international port without permission. Its cargo is an acid which, in contact with sea water, produces a deadly gas. The cargo is jettisoned and the death, cloud bears down on a liner bearing hundreds of civilian passengers, among them the French officer’s wife and child. The French destroyer makes a rescue dash through the gas, scenes in which the dramatic tension heightens to an almost unbearable pitch before daylight is seen again through the choking cloud. At the head of the cast are Robert Newton. Walter Rilla and Kim Peacock. The associate feature is “Man From Music Mountain,” featuring Gene Autry, the screen’s most popular singing cowboy in another exciting outdoor adventure story replete with action, laughter and song. Polly Jenkins ( and her Plowboys, hill-billy type band, who appear in “Man From Music Mountain,” are Gene Autry’s latest discovery. Gene Autry spends most of his spare time searching for undiscovered talent and always tries to get at least one unknown person, or musical organisation, into each new picture that he makes. Also will be shown episode 14 of "Oregon Trail.” There is a strong supporting programme.
