SPRING ' FLOWERS WOMEN'S INSTITUTE DISPLAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Garden Circle of the Carterton Women's Institute held an exhibition of lowers and decorative work in Miss Wolters’s rooms Belvedere Street, yesterday when there was a large attendance of members. The flowers made a beautiful display. ' Mrs A. F. Pink presided and commended members on their efforts. The cut blooms were judged by Mr E. H. Hawker, while Mrs Tankersleyjudged the decorative section. The awards were as follow: — Two bulbs different: —Mrs Pink 1. Mrs Swan 2, Mrs Rooney 3. Two long trumpets: —Mrs Swan 1, Mrs Knutson 2, Mrs Pink 3. Two doubles. —Mrs Swan 1. Two Calendulas: —Mrs Hughan l, z Mrs Hawker 2, Mrs McKenzie 3. Two Iceland poppies:—Mrs Knutson 1, Mrs Williams 2, Mrs King 3. Two Polyanthus:—Mrs Williams 1, Mrs Rooney 2, Mrs Hawker 3. Two Violas: —Mrs Hughan 1, Mrs Hawker 2, Mrs Keenan 3. Decorated Bowl: —Mrs Williams 1, Mrs Hawker 2, Mrs Knutson 3. Decorated vase bulbs: —Mrs Pink 1, Mrs Swan 2, Miss Knutson 3. CROQUET CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Carterton Methodist Ladies’ Croquet Club. There were a good attendance of members. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The following officers were elected: —President, Mrs Daglish, secretary and treasurer, Mrs Wadham, ground committee, Mesdames Vaughan, Tucker, and Wadham; social committee, Mesdames York, Wilkins, Hodder and Newbold. It was decided to donate £1 to the church trustees in appreciation of the 'use of the grounds, gas, etc. The club is indebted to Mr E. Ordish for his donation of a load of soil for top dressing the courts. The season will be opened on October 5. ’ Prayer Meeting. The weekly prayer meeting in connection with, the war was held in the Salvation Army Hall, Carterton, on Wednesday. The hall was packed and the Rev W. J. Couling, of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, delivered a most impressive address. Prayers were offered up by Captain Ofjala, Mrs F. C. Tyler, and Messrs W. Ballinger and Edmonds. Mr P. L. Darke presided at the piano. In Ocotber the services will be held in St Mark’s Church, every Wednesday evening. Personal Items. The funeral of the infant son of Mr and Mrs Geo James, took place yesterday and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The pall bearers were Messrs F. J. and E. James, L. S. Gallon and W. King. Many very beautiful wreaths were sent by friends. The services at the house and graveside were conducted by the Rev J. Daglish, Methodist Minister. When Mr lan Mackie was farewelled at the Carterton District High School recently, the pupils of standards IV, V, and VI, to show their appreciation of the teaching received, presented him v/ith a toilet set. Bowling Club, A working bee of members will be held on the club’s grounds tomorrow for the purpose of preparing the ladies’ green for the season. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Longbush on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. St Mark’s Ladies’ Guild. The annual sale of work in connection with St Luke’s Ladies’ Guild will be held in the band room. Carterton. on Friday October 11. The official opening will be performed by Mrs Holland, of Featherston, at 11 a.m. Parisioners and the general public always look forward to this event, and it is confidently expected that this years' sale of work will eclipse its predecessors. Luncheon and afternoon tea will be available and the usual stalls will be filled with goods. Farewell Dance. A farewell dance will be tendered to Mr lan Mackie, in the bandroom, Carterton, on Tuesday next. Mr Mackie has enlisted for military service, and will go into camp shortly. Good supper and music will be provided.
