SIDI BARRANI
* AGAIN SHELLED BY NAVAL FORCES SUCCESSFUL AIR ATTACK ON TOBRUK. HEAVY DAMAGE INFLICTED. A naval communique from Cairo, transmitted by the 8.8. C., states that naval forces again successfully attacked targets in the Sidi Barrani area in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Sidi Barrani is the furthest point reached by the Italians in the Egyptian Desert. This is the third time the place has been shelled within, ten days. An R.A.F. communique from Cairo states that a successful attack was made on Wednesday on Tobruk, in Libya, by a large force of bombers. Severe damage was done. Direct hits were obtained on barracks, wharves and motor transport. A large fire was started north of the wharves. All the British machines returned. Raids were also made on Italian Eastern Africa and Somaliland. Enemy planes which flew over Malta were engaged by R.A.F. fighters. One was shot down and another probably destroyed.
