Important Objectives Attacked on Wednesday Night OTHER FORCES BOMB KIEL AND CHANNEL PORTS RAILWAYS AND OTHER TARGETS GET THEIR SHARE R.A.F. bombers on Wednesday night gave Berlin its longest raid of the war, a 8.8. C. broadcast states. British planes first appeared over the city at 10 o’clock and until the early hours of yesterday morning an attack was kept up on important military objectives in the city. Another force of bombers attacked the heavily defended naval base at Kiel. The Scharnhorst is still at the base and some of the bombs fell close alongside her. Railway communications were also attacked and a direct hit obtained on an electric power station. Aerodromes and a seaplane base were also bombed. Barges and shipping were heavily bombed in all Channel ports. These attacks started in the early hours of yesterday morning and went on until shortly before dawn. Polish crews took part in an attack on Ostend. Further Enemy Losses NINETEEN PLANES SHOT DOWN OVER BRITAIN YESTERDAY Yesterday British fighters destroyed 19 enemy aircraft over Britain, the 8.8. C. reports. Six British machines were lost, but two of the pilots are safe. An Air Ministry com-/ munique states that enemy aircraft appeared over the east and south coasts yesterday morning. They came for the most part one at a time, but few got far inland. Bombs dropped on two towns on the north-east coast did some damage and caused some casualties. Late yesterday afternoon German planes attacked a number of towns on the Channel coast between Hastings and Southampton. Some were killed and injured. Bombs were also dropped on a town in the Midlands. Some damage was done to houses, but no serious casualties were reported. Eleven out of the 19' German planes destroyed yesterday were bombers. London had two short air raid alarms during the day and at night the usual alarm was given.
