“MARCH OF TIME”

REMARKABLE SUCCESS. Embarking, in the near future, on the sixth year of distribution in Great Britain, the “March of Time's" new series is assured of playing in more cinemas than ever before in its distinguished history, comments a writer in "Kinematograph.” A statement, emanating from RKORadio, tells of the remarkable success enjoyed by this entertaining news-rha-gazine in recent years and the great plans made for the future. Since the inception of the “March of Time” in the United Kingdom the film has become a welcome feature at cinemas throughout the country. The originality and topicality of its presen-

tation has been praised by newspapers in all territory, and every special issue has been made front-page news in leading national journals and magazines.

In their choice of stories the sponsors of the “March of Time” select subjects with a widespread appeal. Such episodes as “The Vatican of Pius XII;” “Japan, Master of the Orient;” “Inside Nazi Germany;” “Czechoslovakia;” “Poland and War;” “The Battle Fleets •of Britain;’’ “Soldiers with Wings;” “The Mediterranean, Background of War;” “Britain, Peace and Propaganda.” have been screened when these national subjects were occupying first place in the public eye. It is this foresight and endeavour that has carved for the "March of Time” the proud position it occupies in the film firmament today; and made it a great box-office attraction.

Two giant petrels are now included in the collection at the Auckland Zoo. One was washed up on the Waihi beach early in August and nursed back to strength by Mrs C. A. Rae, who sent it to the zoo when it had completely recovered. The second bird was rescued and revived in similar circumstances by Mrs Rae some days later. Artificial sea-water is made at the zoo for the birds to drink. With a uniform colouring of slatey-brown, the giant petrel has a length of about 32in and a wing-spread of no less than 66in. it powers of flight being fully equal to those of the albatross. Its habits are vulturelike, as it lives largely on the blubber and flesh of dead whale and seals and on sea-birds.
