PERCEPTION OF GROWING BRITISH STRENGTH DESIRE TO SPREAD WAR. CHINESE PAPER’S COMMENT. (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) CHUNGKING, September 25. - The recent Axis conference in Rome revealed the increasing strength of Britain, and also indicated the spreading of the European war, according to the influential Chinese daily the “Takung Pao.” “Germany,” that paper observes, “is suffering a setback in her war with Britain and therefore is anxious to extend the area of the war and also to strengthen the Axis. On the other hand, as a result of closer AngloAmerican co-operation, the strength of Britain is daily increasing.” JAPANESE ADVANCE INTO CHINA BY WAY OF HAIPHONG. The latest reports are that Japanese vanguards have reached Keh, along the Langson-Caobank highway, and have also reached the vicinity of Lacbinh. along the Lang-son-Mokay highway.
