Sir William Perry and Lady Perry, of Masterton, are visitors to Napier. Mr S. Moody, of Carterton, is a visitor to Hastings. Messrs E. Henderson and G. Barker, of Masterton, are on a visit to Napier.

Squadron-Leader B. S. Nicholl and Mrs Nicholl, of Woodbourne, are the guests of Mrs J. G. Mackay, Wangaehu. Mr G. J. Leech has been re-elected president of the Canterbury branch of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand.

His Grace Archbishop O’Shea was a visitor to Dannevirke on Sunday when he administered the sacrament of confirmation to 86 candidates at Dannevirke Catholic Church. Mr P. R. Climie, secretary of the Canterbury Progress League, who has been ill for more' than two months, is now out of hospital and is convalescing in Christchurch.

Mr J. S. Mcßean’s resignation as head teacher at the Woodville District High School from September 30, has been received by the Hawke’s Bay Education Board.

Messrs Corbett, Letham (Napier), Grundy (Hastings), Taylor (Wanganui), Hollier (Palmerston North), E. Eden, C. Lamberg, Reynolds (Wellington) were guests yesterday at the Hotel Midland, Masterton. At a suitable interval in the St Matthew’s-Knox badminton match played in the McGregor Hall last night opportunity was taken by members of the Knox Club to make a presentation of a money belt to Mr K. Brader, who will enter camp with the Fourth Reinforcements. In making the presentation Mr F. Graham (club captain) wished Mr Brader a speedy and safe return. Mr Brader expressed appreciation for the sentiments accompanying the gift.

A resident of Palmerston North for 20 years, Mr George Henry Neal, died suddenly on Saturday. Born in England 56 years ago, Mr Neal came to New Zealand with his parents as a child of four. He was educated at Mt. Cook School, Wellington, and after service overseas in the Great War, went to Palmerston North in 1920, where he entered into business with Mr H. R. Crawford and remained active in that association till his death. Mr Neal was a director of the Midland Trust and Investment Company and the Manawatu Permanent Building Society, a. past master of Lodge Manawatu Kilwinning, and an office-bearer of Manawatu Royal Arch Chapter.
