HARBOUR COLLISION
TUG SUNK AT SYDNEY. ONE MEMBER OF CREW DROWNED (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, September 23. One of the best-known and most powerful tugs in Sydney harbour, the Hero, was sunk this afternoon when struck by a big freighter which it was assisting to berth. One member of the crew of five, John Downie, was drowned. The remainder, including Captain S. Weldon, were rescued by water police launches. The collision occurred clo;c to the harbour bridge while the Hero and another tug were moving into position to take the towlines. The Hero was struck amidships and turned completely over. She sank in a few minutes stern first. The Hero was owned by J. Fenwick Proprietary Limited.
