ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB. MEETING OF MEMBERS LAST NIGHT. There was an excellent attendance of members at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last evening. Mr A. G. Wiltshire presided. After consideration of a letter from the New Zealand Esperanto Association, it was decided to enter four candidates for the annual translation test conducted by the N.Z.E.A. for first year students. The secretary was also authorised to furnish the parent body with particulars of the club membership with a view to participating in the N.Z.E.A. membership competition for which a prize of £2 2s is awarded annually to the club gaining the most points for the year. It was decided to hold the annual general meeting of the club on October 14. the club thereafter to go into recess until mid-February. A social function was arranged for December 15 to celebrate the anniversary of the birthday of Dr Zamenhof. the creator of Esperanto, the club accepting with thanks the offer of Mrs McNab to provide a birthday cake, and of Mr N. Lamont to photograph the gathering on the occasion. Miss M. Shouler presented a fine original article in Esperanto entitled “Esperanto Days at Hckowhitu Public School,” following which the club devoted over an hour to useful, practical conversation in the international language.
