TIRAUMEA
WOMEN’S DIVISION BIRTHDAY PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the birthday party of the Tiraumea branch of the Women’s Division of lhe Farmers’ Union there was a record attendance despite the bad weather conditions. Among those present were visitors from Pongaroa, Alfredton, Eketahuna and Masterton. The one-act play by members entitled “The Rest Cure," was greatly appreciated as was also the humorous sketch "The Backward Child." Items were given by Mrs G. Laing, Mrs H. Hansen and Miss E. Hansen. On behalf of the Farmers' Union. Mr S. Raleigh wished the branch many happy returns of the day and every success in the future. The president of the branch. Mrs A. C. P. Hay. thanked those present for their support and help in making the party a success. The candles on the two-tier birthday cake were lit by Mrs Burling, and Mrs C. Robbie cut the cake. Beautiful posies were presented to the president and secretary and to the pianist by Mrs E. Harman. Competition aggregate prizes were won by Mrs R. Houlbrooke, Mrs R. Harman Junr.. Miss E. Wallis, Miss N. Wallis and Miss D. Hart. The prizes were presented by Mrs Hay. A cake was given by Mrs G. Laing as a prize for a guessing competition. This was won by Mr Hay, who auctioned it. Mr A. Edmonds. Alfredton, was the final purchaser. The proceeds arc to go towards the bomber plane fund. A considerable sum was taken al the door and this is to be used for patriotic purposes.
