IHURAUA

ENJOYABLE. DANCE PATRIOTIC EFFORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The dance held in the Ihuraua Hall was an outstanding success: Messrs lan Macdonald and P. Pickering were M’s.C. Visitors were present from Masterton and Mauriceville. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss J. Macdonald and J. Bennett. The prizes were donated by Mr L. Dunn. Music was supplied by Mr Jack Barnes’s Rhythm Boys. The cost of the orchestra was’' defrayed by Mr C. R. Judd. At intervals throughout the evening gifts of fruit, vegetables and flowers, home-made bread, cakes and sweets were auctioned. The bidding was spirited and good prices were received. Mr P. Pickering made an excellent auctioneer with Messrs C. R. Judd and L. Dunn assistants. Ax competition for a ham donated by J. H.' Macdonald was won by Mr P. Pickering. Another ham donated by Mr A. -A. Macdonald was auctioned and added substantially to the takings. A “postman’s parcel” donated by Mr A. E. Clarke brought some spirited bids. A dance extra was played by Miss E. Dagg. The ladies provided a tasty supper. The gross takings, £24 6s 6d, will go towards Christmas parcels for New Zealand soldfers overseas. Slips on Road. The heavy rain on Saturday afternoon brought down a large slip a short distance from the Tikitapu homestead. The road was closed to all traffic fbr two days.
