WORK HELD UP
AT AUCKLAND COAL MINE. DISPUTE OVER ONE MAN’S CLAIM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 11. The dispute which opened at the Macdonald coal mine on Tuesday of last week, when 200 miners decided not to work till one man’s claim for wettime payment had been determined, was revived this morning, when, after working for an hour, the men returned to their homes. No work will be done at the mine tomorrow. Last week the men were idle on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They worked on Friday and again on Monday and Tuesday of this week. It is understood that the men held a meeting to receive a report from the disputes committee this morning, and subsequently left the mine after working only an hour. The Northern Miners’ Union executive held a meeting tonight to discuss the situation, but it was announced that no finality had been reached. A further meeting with the men will take place at the Macdonald mine tomorrow afternoon.
