CLEAN CUT EDGE

NEEDS CONSTANT ATTENTION. A clean-cut line makes a world of difference in the garden—but a cleancut edge needs constant attention. Lavender does well for this purpose, the variety known as Munstead Dwarf being the best. If you require a perfect hedge, however, do not allow the lavender to flower. A good colourful edging for rose beds is Nepeta Mussini, but do not let it run riot. Keep it clipped at the sides and it makes a trim grey and mauve border. A delightful informal edging is one which takes in various coloured aubretias, deep pink saxi- | fragc, blue veronica, pink and mauve rock phlox, white perennial candytuft, 1 yellow and white stonecrops, blue I campanulas, double pink daisies and < an occasional clump of catmint. 1
