TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

MONTHLY MEETING. COOKING DEMONSTRATION. The Masterton Townswomen’s Guild held its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon in the Y.M.C.A. Hall. The president occupied the chair and there was a good attendance. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Miss Munro. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode, the reciting of the Aspirations and the prayer for peace. Mrs Judd as the Guild representative on the Patriotic Committee, presented her report, and thanked members who had helped to make the quota of hussifs; also members who collected donations for the soldiers’ Christmas parcels. The Roll Call was a “Thought for the Day.” The competitions resulted as follows: —Bed socks: Mrs Davis-Goff, 1; Mrs Coe, 2; Mrs Bubbers, 3. Cake: Mrs Lyttle, 1; Mrs Taylor. 2; Mrs Goff and Mrs Donovan (equal), 3. Afternoon tea was provided. The president introduced Miss Reed and presented her with a shoulder spray. Miss Reed gave an interesting demonstration of cooking, which was followed with keen interest by members. The Wairarapa Power Board lent two electric stoves for the demonstration. The meeting closed with the singing of the Ode and the National Anthem.
