POLICY OF PILLAGE

NAZI DEMANDS ON VICHY FOOD & RAW MATERIALS. FIFTY-EIGHT PER CENT OF STOCKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, September 10. The Washington correspondent of the “New York Times” says it is reliably stated that Germany has formally demanded that the Vichy Government ship to the Reich 58 per cent of the food and raw materials in unoccupied France and similarly such products imported to France in the future. It is believed the new French Ambassador, who will endeavour to obtain food relief for France from the United States, will meet fresh obstacles due to this development. The State Department is also concerned at the fact that the French forces in Martinique remain in possession of 130 American bombers aboard the aircraft-carrier Bearn. Diplomatic efforts to repossess the planes are failing.
