FLEET AIR ARM
FURTHER SUCCESSES IN NORWAY ENEMY SHIPS AND BASES BOMBED. ONE AIRCRAFT MISSING. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) RUGBY, September 10. Further successes by the Fleet Air Arm against enemy supply ships off the Norwegian coast are disclosed by an Admiralty communique which states that aircraft again carried out an offensive reconnaissance over the Norwegian coast yesterday. This confirmed that two of the three tanks of the oil depot of Dolvic which were attacked by Skuas on September 8 are completely destroyed and a third tank and a pipe line severely damaged. Yesterday Skuas attacked an enemy supply ship of about 2,500 tons in Haugesund, scoring hits. Enemy huts south of Bergen were also attacked with bombs and hits were obtained. Three of the huts were completely destroyed and others were damaged. Our aircraft encountered intense opposition from anti-aircraft batteries and one Skua is missing. AIR OFFENSIVE PRELUDE TO INVASION. ACCORDING TO BERLIN MILITARY CIRCLES. (Received Tliis Day, 11.30 a.m.) ZURICH, September 10. The “Basler Nachrichten’s” Berlin correspondent says military circles in Berlin are emphatic in declaring that the air offensive is a prelude to invasion before the end of September. It is added that the disorganisation of the south of England is the first essential.
