RUGBY AFFAIRS
WAIRARAPA UNION MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A PLAYER SUSPENDED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union committee, presided over by the president. Mr H. A. McPhee, was held in the Wairarapa P. and A. Society rooms, Carterton. last evening. There were also present Messrs C. E. Gray, F. Henson. V. Welch. F. Morton. J. T. Scott. M. J. Parker, K. G. Fairbrother and the secretary (Mr E. McKenzie). The treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £134 2s. and at the Post Office Savings Bank £7 9s 9d. Accounts amounting to £5l 13s lid were submitted and passed for payment. A Dalefleld third grade player was before the committee having been ordered off the field by the referee in a recent game at Carterton and was suspended for the 1941 season, and it was decided that he forward a written apology to the referee for the bad language used. One player declared on the accident fund and one off the fund. The Carterton Football Club wrote forwarding complimentary tickets to the president and members of the committee to be present at their championship dance on Monday next at the King's Theatre. The invitation was received with thanks and it was decided the president and as many members of the committee as possible be present. The Carterton Football Club was granted permission for its senior team to play a game against the Wellington senior team (runners-up in the Wellington championship) at Carterton on Saturday September 21. The National Patriotic Funds Board wrote acknowledging a cheque for £4B 7s lid, being the net proceeds of the match N.Z. Army team v Wairarapa, played at Masterton, which amount was greatly appreciated. The secretary of the Wellington Football Union wrote thanking the Wairarapa executive for the hospitality shown to the Wellington team on the recent visit to Carterton.
The Wairarapa Schools Rugby Football Union wrote thanking the Wairarapa Rugby Union for its assistance in connection with the recent schools’ tourney. It was decided to congratulate the school boys upon their performance. It was resolved that a letter of thanks be forwarded to Mr E. B. Booth for his interest in the boys and for the funds he had been instrumental in collecting. The Defence Department were given permission to use the Memorial Park, Masterton., for military training purposes. Mr Scott’s action in allowing the Martinborough Home Defence Corps to use the football ground for a parade was endorsed. It was resolved that the next meeting be held on Thursday, September
