EXCELLENT YEAR
WAIRARAPA INTERHOUSE ASSOCIATION SOCIETY’S WORK APPRECIATED. ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms. Masterton, last night. The chairman of the management committee, Mr G. Daubney. presided over a large attendance of delegates from business houses. From the atmosphere of co-operation which marked the meeting indications are for another successful year.
Several apologies for absence were received, among them being a letter from Mr J. H. Cunningham, general manager of the W.F.C.A., who apologised for his unavoidable absence and congratulated the society on the excellent results achieved. He considered that the formation of the association had been well worth while.
In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet Mr Daubney stated that the financial statement showed the association to be in a particularly good position in that all connected with the association had done their bit. The association had been the first body locally to make an effort folpatriotic purposes and the second in the district to offer an interest free loan to the Government. The general expenses had been very small. In seconding the motion Mr R. Pawson paid a tribute to the work of the secretary, Mr D. Costello, stating that the association was fortunate in having his services. He considered that he was the best man they could have in that position. Mr J. W. Hayden added that the auditors had stated that the book; had been’ a pleasure to examine and had been particularly well kept. A letter was received from Mrs Miller Hope, thanking the association for its presentation to her in connection with the girls' choir. Mrs Millei Hope expressed her appreciation of the assistance she had received from the secretary and Mr Daubney anc also from Mrs J. R. Dickson, who had acted as accompaniste. The work wiv considered by Mrs Hope to assist in the cultural development of the girls Appreciative letters were also received from the Principal of Wairarapa College. Mr G. G. Hancox, and the board of directors of the Mastertor Y.M.C.A. On the motion of Mr Hayden it war decided to increase the managemen' committee from 9 to 11 members.. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: President,’ Mr L. B. Maunsell; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. H. Cunningham. H. P Hugo. E. M. Hodder; secretary-treasu-rer, Mr D. Costello; management committee, Messrs G. Daubney, J. W. Hayden. R. Pawson. Bell, J. Bruce, Foster, G. Davis. McChesney, F. Graham, Callister and Saunders: hon auditors Messrs Sellar and Sellar. Mr Daubney expressed his thanks tithe members of the committee for the way in which they had worked over the past year, and to the secretary anc’ the girls’ team for their energetic cooperation. Reference was made to the work of Miss N. Thomson, of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Department for her willing assistance. Those present were afterwards entertained at supper by Mr Hayden.
