TINUI
DISTRICT SCHOOLS CONSOLIDATION PROPOSALS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Proposals for the consolidation of schools in the Tinui district were discussed at a meeting of residents held at Tinui last night, at which Mr W. V. Dyer, chairman of the Wellington Education. Board, and Colonel T. W. McDonald, a member of the board, were present. Mr James Andrew presided. Proposals were put forward for a scheme to consolidate district schools at Tinui or elsewhere, whichever was the most convenient centre. The matter was fully discussed with the board members.
The meeting was a most enthusiastic one and a resolution was passed by a large majority in favour of the delegates of the respective school committees concerned recommending their committees to approach the Wellington Education Board with a request that a scheme for consolidation should be drawn up.
Schools in the area from Riversdale to Castlepoint and from Awatoitoi to Tinui are concerned in the proposals. The position, it was stated, is that the board would be prepared to bring down a scheme if the residents of the district desired consolidation.
