REDUCTION OF POSTAGE RATE. A reduction from 6s 3d to 5s 9d a half ounce in the postage rate on air-mail letters to the United Kingdom via the Trans-Pacific-Unitcd States-Trans-At-lantic ail’ services, with a corresponding reduction for postcards from 3s 2d to 2s lid, is announced by the PostmasterGeneral (the Hon. P. C. Webb). The reduced rates will be effective on and after Monday next, September 9. The air route mentioned provides a fast service for correspondence between New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The Trans-Pacific service is scheduled to leave Auckland on a Saturday; and provided normal connections are maintained, correspondence will reach London on the following Monday week. In practice, the transit time has averaged twelve days.
