MASTERTON SALE WETHERS & HOGGETS IN DEMAND The Associated Auctioneers report on their weekly Masterton sale held yesterday as follows:—A medium entry of sheep and a special entry of yearling steers and heifers came forward and attracted a large attendance of buyers. Sheep were in demand, fats selling on a par with last week’s rates, while wether and ewe hoggets met with spirited competition and made prices slightly in advance. The yarding of cattle attracted much interest and met a keen sale, selling at prices well above the vendors expectations. Good yearling P.A. steers from £6 4s to £6 ss, and yearling Hereford steers £5. A total clearance was made under the hammer and the following will indicate values:—

Sheep:—Light fat ewes, 29s 9d, fat hoggets. 26s 3d, woolly ewe hoggets, 30s to 31s, small ditto 245, woolly wether hoggets, 24s 3d. Cattle: Yearling P.A. steers a/c. James Andrew, £6 4s to £6 ss; ditto a/c John Andrew £ 5 13s yearling Hereford steers a/c. Peter Andrew £5; yearling P.A. Herefords, a/c. J. Andrew £3 Is; ditto a/c. John Andrew, £3 12s 6d; yearling Hereford heifers, £2 14s; store Jersey cows, £2 10s. PAHIATUA SALE The Associated Auctioneers report on the Pahiatua weekly sale as follows: — A medium yarding of sheep and dairy cattle, and a capacity yarding of pigs were offered to a large attendance of local buyers. Fat and store hoggets were in keen demand, and prices showed a slight increase on our last sale of same. Dairy cows and heifers of quality were in short supply and bidding on stock near profit was spirited throughout the sale; a total clearance being effected at auction at prices well in excess of vendors’ reserves. Pigs sold well at late rates. Quotations: —Fat wether hoggets (extra good), 30s, 27s to 265. Fat wethers, 35s to 32s 6d, wether hoggets 23s 3d, 225, 21s 3d to 20s 9d. Ewe hoggets, 30s. Dairy cows close to profit (good), £l4 to £ll, poorer sorts, £9 5s to £7 10s. Heifers, medium sorts, £lO 15s to £8 15s. Two-year P.A. £3 15s. Pigs: Stores, £2 9s, £2 ss, to £1 14s. Weaners, £1 ss, £1 4s 6d, £1 4s, £1 2s 6d, to 18s. ADDINGTON MARKET 1 EASING IN FAT CATTLE J VALUES. PORKERS BRING SEASON’S BEST RATES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 4. Fat cattle were easier at Addington today, when a fairly big yarding was offered. Quality was mixed, but there was a fair proportion of good beef. Values were £1 to 25s below those of last week. Good beef made 47s 6d 100 pounds, best up to 555, best steers £l4 5s to £27 2s 6d. others to £l4, best heifers £l2 to £l9 7s 6d. others from £7 10s, best cows to £l6 12s 6d, others from £6. There was a larger yarding of store sheep, the bulk of which were ewes in lamb. The sale was steady for all classes, though prices were slightly lower than last week. The fat sheep entry was small, but values, after a spectacular rise early, settled down to about par. Passings were heavy among the heaviest southern sheep. Medium to prime wethers made 41 to 52s 6d, others from 325, medium to prime ewes, 31s 6d to 52s 6d ethers from 21s.
