DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES.

BRILLIANT PLAY SEEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A large attendance in the Town Hall, Wellington, last night, saw 4 some brilliant play when the finals of the New Zealand centennial table tennis championships were decided. R. A. Algie, Otago, proved that he is the outstanding player in the Dominion by retaining the men's singles championship, and. with his brother, A. R. Algie. also retaining the men's doubles title.

Mrs M. G. Valk (Hutt Valley) took the women’s singles championship by beating Mrs H. D. Kennedy (Wellington) in a spirited final. Mrs Valk deserved the honour, as she also contested the final at Dunedin last year.

Some splendid rallies were seen in the final of the mixed doubles, in which M. Gosling and/Miss D. Croxton (Wellington) narrowly beat J. Croudis and Miss B. Strang (Hutt Valley). M. Friend (Otago), the South Island champion, won the boys' singles by beating the title-holder, L. R. Muirson (Canterbury), in two hard-fought sets. Following are the results:— Men's Singles. Semi-finals: R. A. Algie (Otago) beat W. J. Fogarty (Otago). 17/21, 21/13, 21/12, 21/12; E. Boniface (Wellington) beat M. Friend (Otago). 21/5. 18/21. 21/14, 21/11. Final: R. A. Algie beat E. Boniface, 21/13. 21/8, 21/17. Singles. Mrs M. G. Valk (Hutt Valley) beat Mrs H. D. Kennedy (Wellington), 21/18. 13/21, 21/13. Men’s Doubles. R. A. Algie and A. R. Algie (Otago) beat. E. Boniface and G. Smith (Wellington), 21/18. 21/13, 21/19. Women’s Doubles. Mrs H. D. Kennedy and Miss D. Croxton (Wellington) beat Miss M. Wareham and Miss M. Johnston (Wellington), 21/9, 21/16. Mixed Doubles. M. Gosling and Miss D. Croxton (Wellington) beat J. Croudis and Miss B. Strang (Hutt Valley), 17/21, 21/18, 22/20. Boys’ Singles. M. Friend (Otago) beat L. R. Muirson (Canterbury), 21/19, 21/18. Girls’ Singles. Miss R. Rea (Wellington) beat Miss J. Strange (Wellington), 21/16. 21/15.
