GROWING OF CARROTS

TRY THIS PLAN. Many growers are unsuccessful with carrots although the ground seems ideal. The seedlings reach-a certain stage, then collapse, owing the attacks of the fly and other causes. The plan should be tried of growing the carrots on ridges. Stretch the garden line the full length of the plot; draw the soil up to it with a hoe. to make a small ridge, and make the ridges Ift apart until the whole area is dealt with. Press the handle of the rake into the top of the ridge to make a hollow for the seed. After sprinkling a little wood ash along the drill, sow the seed. The ridges are much easier to weed and thin, and may obviate the risk of failure.
