TABLE TENNIS
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVE TEAM ANNOUNCED. A BUSY MONTH AHEAD. The month of September promises to be a very busy one for the Wairarapa Table Tennis Association. A representative match with Wellington is scheduled to be played at Masterton on Saturday, September 14, and the Wairarapa championships on Thursday, September 19, for the A grade and September 26 for the B grade. The match with Wellington should be an interesting one and those who play table tennis should not miss the opportunity of watching the Wellington players in action. The Wairarapa representative team will be as follows: Messrs Jack Nicholls, lan Coleman,. Peter Greenlees and Hillas Myers; Mrs J. Nicholls, Misses Joyce Larsen, Nora Brown and Jean McGovern. INTER-CLUB COMPETITION. DRAW FOR THURSDAY NIGHT. The draw for a further round of the B grade matches to be played tomorrow night is as follows: — Winter Sports I v Post Office I. Winter Sports II v Catholic Club I. Catholic Club II v Kuripuni 11. Post Office II v Kuripuni I. McDufl's, a bye.
WAIRARAPA CHAMPIONSHIPS
COMMENT ON FORM. KEEN INTEREST SHOWN IN B GRADE. The A grade championships will be keenly contested this year. In the men’s section there are several players with equal chances and all games will be well worth watching. J. Nicholls, I. Coleman, P. Greenlees, H. and N. Myers, T. Ihaka, J. Haywood and
M. Winslade are among those who may carry off the Wairarapa Cup. In the ladies’ section, Mrs Nicholls, Misses J. Larsen, N. Brown, J. McGovern, V. Ward. Mrs H. Myers and Mrs V.. McNabb have been playing consistently this season and the games between them should be keenly contested.
This season the B grade players have been keener than they have been for many years, and the finals of their championships should be very interesting. In the men’s section Noel Leadley, A. Howes. J. Catherall, J. Gill, W. Greenlees, G. Smith, D. Perrin will be hard to beat. In the ladies’ division O. Quinn, J. Gleeson, H. and M. Potangaroa, Mrs Catherall, M. Scanlon, M. Greenlees, Mrs Wright and Mrs Ihaka will prove to be formidable opponents.
WINTER SPORTS CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS TO EE HELD. MEMBERS COMPETING IN N.Z. TOURNAMENT. At a meeting of the Winter Sports Club committee held last night it was decided to hold the club championships on Saturday. September 28, entries to be in the hands of the secretary not later than Tuesday, September 24.
Many changes have taken place on the ladder during the last few club nights and at present the first six position are held by the following: I. Coleman, J. Nicholls, M. Wing, P. Greenlees, J. Haywood and Mrs Nicholls. M. Wing's play is improving rapidly as is shown by his ladder position.
On Saturday last a trophy tournament was held and many exciting games and close finishes were witnessed. Handicap singles were played and the tournament was run in five sections. The section winners were: Men’s. J. Haywood, M. Wing and D. Perrin. Ladies: Mrs J. Nicholls and Miss M. Scanlon. In the finals Mr J. Haywood and Mrs Nicholls were victorious.
At present two club members. Miss N. Brown and P. Greenlees, are competing in the New Zealand championships which are being held in Wellington. The last report states that these two players had each won two rounds of the competition and were entering the third round.
The following players will represent the club in the B grade matches to be played tomorrow night:—l.. Miss Quinn, Miss Masters, Messrs N. Leadley and A. Howes; 11. Mrs Leadley. Miss Scanlon. Miss A. Wing and D. Stevens.
