ROUGH SEAS
WATER INVADES HOMES, DAMAGE AT COBDEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, September 3. The combination of rough seas and an exceptionally high tide caused sea encroachment at North Beach, Cobden, during the night, resulting in hundreds of pounds of damage to property. The water invaded three homes to a depth of several feet, and the owners suffered loss of furniture. Two poultrykeepers lost a big percentage of their fowls. At the North Beach Metal Company’s crusher the seas wrecked a double garage, invaded the machinery, and swept away the stocks of crushed metal. The road along the beach is impassable for three-quarters of a mile, being covered with debris. The seas were still encroaching at high water this morning. Similar encroachment was experienced at South Beach, with minor damage to the road skirting the aerodrome.
