OBITUARY
VISCOUNT HORNE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, September 3. The death has occurred of Viscount Horne, after an appendix operation. Robert Stevenson Horne was the Ist Viscount (created 1937) of Slamanan; Director of Suez Canal Co, P. and O. Steam Navigation Co, Lloyd's Bank. Commercial Union Assurance Co, Great Western Railway Co. Burma Corporation, Zinc Corporation. and Imperial Smelting Corporation. He was the youngest son of the late Rev R. S. Horne, Minister of the parish of Slamanan, Stirlingshire, and was unmarried. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel in tlie Royal Engineers’and became Assistant Inspector-General of Transportation in 1917: Director of Department of Materials and Priority. Admiralty. 1917; Director of Admiralty Labour Department, 1918; Third Civil Lord of the Admiralty, 1918; Minister of Labour, 1919: President of the Board of Trade. 1920-21: Chancellor of Exchequer, 1921-22; Lord Rector of Aberdeen University. 1921-24.
