COSY THEATRE
TWO GRAND COMEDIES. Hilarious comedy in the approved Marx Brothers’ style is the keynote of “A Night at the Opera,” which will be one of the double features at the Cosy Theatre tonight. Glorious singing by Allan Jones, Walter King and Kitty Carlisle is an added attraction in this merry comedy. The story tells how the three Marxes take under their control the fortunes of a young tenor who needs only a chance to prove his real worth. In hilarious sequences the Marxes stow away on a trans-Atlantic steamer and arrive more or less safely in America, where the “night at the opera” becomes laughterfilled reality. Some of the brightest sequences are those in which the brothers, bearded and utterly transformed, masquerade as Greeks, and world-fa-mous aviators.
On the same programme is the Laurel and Hardy comedy, “The Bohemian Girl.” Basecl on the famous opera, the story blends with its hearty comedy not a little music. Thelma Todd is the “girl” of the title, who, stolen by gipsies in her childhood, lives an eccentric, wandering life in their company. Laurel and Hardy, self appointed guardians of the supposed “gipsy” girl, see to her upbringing in their own inimitable fashion. A surprise climax blends comedy, drama and music in entertaining fashion. Other artists in the picture are Jacqueline Wells, Antonio Moreno and Mae Busch.
