FLOATING AIR BASE
PAN-AMERICAN PURCHASE. YACHT FOR USE AT NOUMEA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 2. The 830-ton yacht Southern Seas, which has been purchased by PanAmerican Airways, is to be used as a floating air base at Noumea and not. as was originally reported from overseas, to connect Australia with the trans-Pacific service at Noumea, according to Mr Harold Gaily. New Zealand representative of the company, who arrived from Noumea aboard the American Clipper today. Inc yacht will sail shortly from Noumea to Sydney for overhaul before going into regular service as a floating base. "Any change in my headquarters is not contemplated at present. ’ said Mr Gatty. when there was referred to him a report that he intended transfeiiing perm a nently to Australia.
