LADIES’ ASSOCIATION MATCHES AGAINST WELLINGTON. A LOSS AND A DRAW. A representative match, under the auspices of the Wairarapa Ladies' Hockey Association, was played between Wairarapa and Wellington Senior B teams at Lansdowne on Saturday afternoon. Wellington won by 2 goals to 1. Play was rather disappointing and neither side played hockey above the ordinary. Little was seen of the usual bright, open play. Wairarapa were unfortunate not to have won. as many good scoring movements broke down. In the Wairarapa team E. Madsen (inside right), T. Compton (bully) and D. Matthews in the forwards were most prominent. Wairarapa's only score came from a good shot by F. Baird. In the Wellington team the goalie, right full back and bully were the best of an even combination. The latter player scored Wellington’s goals. JUNIOR LADIES. WELLINGTON v WAIRARAPA- ’ The Wairarapa and Wellington junior ladies drew, 1 goal each, in a fairly even game. At the start it seemed as if Wellington were going to outclass Wairarapa but the home team’s combination improved considerably in the later stages of the game. VISITORS ENTERTAINED. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the Wairarapa Ladies’ Association at a gathering held in the Association rooms after the matches. The president, Mr F. Madsen, presided over a large attendance. Cups were presented to the captains of the teams by the patron, Mr J. Robertson, M.P. MEN’S ASSOCIATION BANNIN SHIELD MATCH. CARTERTON BEAT WESLEY. In a Bannin Shield knock-out match, played by the Men’s Association on Saturday, Carterton beat Wesley by 6 goals to 3 in a fast open match. Both sides combined well and made the most of any scoring chances which came their way. The Carterton players were on top in the second half and showed better form than in the first half.
