SAVAGE CLUB

EIGHTH KORERO. ENJOYABLE GATHERING. Savage Owen Hemmingsen was installed on Saturday as chief of the evening for the eighth Korero of the I Masterton Savage Club by Big- Chief I V. S. Wilton after the singing of the National Anthem and the opening ode. The items by the club orchestra (under Savage C. W. Kerry) were greatly appreciated and were followed by vocal solos by Paleface A. Goulden (Carterton). An amusing sketch “For the Face” by Savages Hancock, Russell and Kennedy preceded vocal items by the veteran Savage Harry Hall, who has lost none of his entertaining ability. A very interesting talk on “Art" was given by Paleface S. B. MacLennan (Masterton) who delighted his hearers. After the introduction of the visitors by Deputy Chief Price the usual auction of goods for patriotic purposes brought in £3. During Buttery Hatch, Savage W. G. Perry proposed the toast of the visitors, Messrs A. Goulden, S. B. MacLennan, J. Grey, R. Wanus, and Private H. R. Howon. The reply was made by Paleface J. Grey. Big Chief Wilton proposed the toast of the new Scribe, Savage F. B. Pickering, who suitably replied.

The orchestra provided a much appreciated item for the second half. A well received humorous playette, “Climax,” was presented by Savages Cottle, Flemming and Rqssell. Two delightful solos by Savage Dave Couper, a most amusing sketch “One Track Mind,” by Savages Hancock, Henry and Kennedy and songs by Bert Irvine brought an enjoyable programme to a close.
