GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS E. MADDISON WINS SENIOR. (“Times-Age” Special.) The finals of the Greytown Club championships were completed at the weekend under ideal conditions. E. Maddison played steady golf and defeated J. C. Feast 4/3. Feast outdrove Maddison with his shots from the tee but Maddison played his irons with deadly accuracy. The end of the morning round of 18 holes saw Maddison two up. Aftei’ the first nine holes after lunch Maddison was still one up. Driving off at the 28th Feast put two tee shots out of bounds and Maddison won the hole in a bogey five. The 29th saw Maddison increase his lead to three up and he also won the next two holes, being five up with five to play. Feast, however, won the next. The next hole saw both players just off the green with their seconds. Both left themselves, long putts. Maddison being 10 feet from the pin, but he made no mistake.
The game between H. Bull and W. Pope was well contested. Bull had a lead of four at the end of the morning round, but in the afternoon Pope reduced this to one, but Bull recovered and subsequently won 5/4. In the junior section S. Shedden and G. Te Whaiti had a hard tussle. At the end of the morning round they were all square. In the afternoon Shedden
took the lead early and won 2 up. The first round for the trophy donated by Mr L. Curtis was played on Saturday, the best scores being: A. Carter 64, K. Nix 65, S. Shedden 66, W. Everett 66, T. R. Ingley 68, H. W. Feast 68, J. C. Feast 68. E. Williams 68 W. Brown 70, L. Mead 71, A. G. Peterson 72, F. C. Bunny 73, W. Tully 73. In the consolation games A. Carter beat T. R. Ingley 3/2; El. W. Feast beat L. Mead 2/1; S. Brice beat A. Lane 1 up; K. Nix beat T. Gold 1 up. The ladies’ championships resulted as follows: Seniors.—Mrs S. Thompson beat Miss O. Nix 5/4. Intermediate. — Miss I. Booth beat Mrs C. Ingley 4/3.1 Juniors. —Miss McPhee beat Mrs Nicholson 2/1. Matarawa School Bus. Mi - F. Dennes has received advice from the Education Board that his tender has been accepted for the conveyance of the Matarawa children to
the Greytown School. It is Mr Dennes’s intention to put a modern bus on this run as soon as he can get one built. Personal. Sergt. Buckman, of the N.Z. Signal Corps, and Mrs Buckman, are the guests of Miss Feast, West Street. Dr Oakey, who is recovering from an attack of influenza, expects to resume his duties today. Messages of Greeting.
