FARMING & HOLIDAYS

(To the Editor)

Sir, —The farmers are doing all they can this year. I am wondering if the blacksmiths’ workmen are to be off at Christmas, as they have been, if I remember rightly, these last two years. Last Christmas, I had a plough part break. I had to wait until the workmen came back —I forget how many days. They are entitled to their holidays, but it should not be in the busy time. What would the country be like if the cow cockies and farmers had their holidays at the busy time of the year? If we get a dry season, harvesting will be in full swing by Christmas and one day means a tremendous lot, when a crop is ripe, if a heavy wind comes. Thanking you for space—l am, etc., —FARMER. Masterton, August 29.
