! AUSTRALIA INCREASING OUTPUT I
Australia will soon be producing 4,000,000 gallons of power alcohol a year. The Sorina Sugar Works (Queensland) will extend its equipment to produce 2,000,000 gallons and the Colonial Sugar Refinery plant in
i Sydney will soon have a 2,000,000 gallon capacity.' At present, according to an estimate by Federal authorities, the consumption of. power alcohol in Australia is slightly more than 1,000.000 gallons a year. The surplus may be used as a substitute for tetra-ethyl-
lead to improve grades of petrol. Experiments are being carried out to investigate the possibilities of using surplus wheat and sugar beet for the production of alcohol.
