FEDERAL INCOME TAX

COLLECTION BY INSTALMENTS. The Commonwealth Treasurer has decided to introduce a compulsory system of collecting Federal taxation at the source, on similar lines to '-.hat which has been adopted in Great Britain. He considers that this method will ease the burden that must fall on all classes of taxpayers, as a result of the huge increases that have already been made in taxation, and others that must inevitably follow. Ho is influenced also, it is believed, by a realisation that taxation must soon extend to lower income tax fields. It is understood that the new scheme will be introduced at the beginning of next year, and that a monthly deduction of a twelfth of the estimated annual tax of the taxpayer will be made.
