RIFLE CLUBS
USE IN DEFENCE TRAINING. URGED BY DANNEVIRKE ORGANISATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! DANNEVIRKE. August 30. The Dannevirke Defence Rifle Club passed the following resolution: "That the National Rifle Association draws the attention of the Government to the fact that the services of the rifle clubs in the Dominion are available for the training in musketry of members of the Home Defence forces and should be so utilised. The Dannevirke Defence Rifle Club offers its services in this capacity.” The mover, Mr. A. H. R. Gillespie, said he was very disappointed that the organisation of rifle clubs had not been made use of in New Zealand’s war effort. "It should have been utilised for the training of youths and others in musketry. I understand that the rifle clubs in Wellington have taken some steps in this direction, but the movement should be a national one. A wonderful opportunity is being lost for training young men how to shoot."
