COSY THEATRE

“BLONDIE ON A BUDGET.” “Blondie on a Budget,” the newest and best of the richly human domestic comedies based upon Chic Young’s popular comic strip, will be shown tonight at the Cosy Theatre with Penny Singleton and Arthur Lake again portraying Blondie and Dagwood respectively. The Columbia film, in which Rita Hayworth is prominently cast, relates the hectic misadventures of the Bumsteads when an old flame returns to singe Dagwood, while Blondie “burns.” Others in the cast are Larry Simms, as Baby Dumpling, Don Beddoe and Danny Mummert, and Thurston Hall.

Starring George Raft, Jane Bryan and William Holden, “Invisible Stripes’’ is the associate feature. The story is of a man just released from Sing Sing who is determined to lead an honest life, but the obstacles he encounters as a parolee make it next to impossible. George Raft plays the title role. The suave actor, who won fame years ago in “Scarface,” has come a long way since that auspicious film debut. Born in New York Raft stepped rapidly through such careers as electrician’s helper, boxer, professional baseball player, and dancer. It was as a dancer that Raft found fame. When the Charleston gave him the reputation as “the kid with the fastest feet in New York,” he was off on his career, which soon brought him to the attention of Hollywood. Recently he rebelled and refused to play any more gangsters, but retracted his intention to play in “Invisible Stripes,” because of the nature of the role.
