MASTERTON CLUB’S ANNUAL REPORT LOSS OF TOTALISATOR REBATE FELT. FIFTY HORSES NOW TRAINING AT OPAKI. “The totalisator investments for the year amounted to £15,794 —a decrease of £1,586 compared Avith the previous year,” states the annual report of the Masterton Racing Club. “This year your stewards made application to the Racing Conference for permission to race on two separate Saturdays and applied for October 19, 1940 and April 26, 1941. HoAvever, our application was not successful and the dates alloted to us are Thursday and Saturday, October 17 and 19.

“Finance: After writing off depreciation amounting to £129 6s lid the revenue account shoAvs a loss of £365 14s lid. The loss of the 1 per cent rebate on the totalisator was a severe loss to our finances.

“Training tracks:- Mr T. R. George, of Trentham, is doav quartered at the racecourse, where he has 20 horses in training. Altogether, Avith the local horses, which are trained on our tracks, ovei- 50 horses are now in work. The tracks are in first-class order, which reflects great credit to our caretaker. Mr Gibbs.

“Office bearers: The folloAving nominations have been received for the respective offices of president, vice-pre-sidents (2), and stewards (7): —President, Mr J. M. James; vice-presidents. Messrs C. J. Bennett and S. J. W. Gill: steAvards, Messrs R. Buick, Walter Cameron, A. Corskie, J. B. Moodie, I. Macßae, J. H. Payton and C. J. ToxAvard. As only the required nominations have been received, a ballot will not be necessary, and those nominated Avill be duly elected at the annual general meeting. All members will join with your executive in offering sympathy to the late Mr M. J. Gallagher, one of the oldest members of the club. Several of our members are aAvay on active service and others are in camp. These soldiers will be treated as hon. members for the duration of the Avar.”
