APPEAL FOR HORSES

WAIRARAPA FARMERS READY TO RESPOND. ORGANISATION COMPLETED. “Every farmer will let his horse go,’’ said Mr Hugh Morrison, Wairarapa Provincial President of the Farmers', Union, referring this morning to arrangements that had been made in the Wairararapa to supply horses to the army authorities for military training purposes. “Every district in the Wairarapa.'' he said, “is ready to supply the horses wanted. The organisation is ready when the time comes to deliver them. Promises of horses have come from all sides.'’ Mr Morrison said there might be some trouble in getting the horses of the right type for army work. This was due to the effects of the mechanical age. During the last Avar the average horse Avas one used to hard work, as farmers then either rode them or drove them to town. Even the dairy farmer then had horses. All these horses were of a good type for army work, but nbAV a lighter type Avas usual and the particular stamp of horse most desired by the army Avas not being bred. Farmers, however. Avould give the best horses they had. Arrangements had been made for the farmers to deliver- the horses, when they were required, at the nearest railway station.
