DELAYED BY WEATHER
THE AMERICAN CLIPPER. ARRIVING IN AUCKLAND TOMORROW. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. August 30. Because of continued unfavourable weather on the last stage of her flight from San Francisco, Pan-American
Airways American Clipper, with a party of prominent Americans aboard will not now reach Auckland before Sunday afternoon.
The Clipper left Noumea on Thursday morning, but, after five hours’ flying, turned back upon receiving adverse reports on conditions near New Zealand. The weather having become bad further north with squalls and low visibility, she was held at Noumea today and a message was received in Auckland tonight that, as reports were still unfavourable the flight would not be attempted again before Sunday.
The Minister of Lands, Mr Langstone, who arrived from Wellington on Thursday to welcome the party travelling by the Clipper is remaining in Auckland. A State dinner was to have been held in honour of the visitors, but if they arrive on Sunday this will be abandoned. The Minister, however, will meet them at an informal function.
