GREYTOWN
WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Wednesday afternoon in the Parish Hall. The meeting opened with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem and the prayer for peace. Mrs Beu presided over a good attendance of members. Several apologies for abser.ee were received, and sympathy was extended to sick members.
A letter of thanks was received from Mr S. Shedden, treasurer of the Citizens’ Patriotic Committee, for £l7 received from the shop day held recently to provide goods for soldiers’ parcels.
Used stamps were received from Mesdames F. C. Bunny. Bell, Wiggins. W. Wenden and D. Ingley. Mrs Beu gave an interesting report on the last Dominion Executive meeting held in Wellington. Mrs Beu also read the reports of the Dominion President and Secretary.
The meeting decided' to support the appeal for money to buy a fighter plane, and several donations were immediately promised. It was arranged that each member should bring an article of clothing for refugee children. These will be forwarded through the local depot to the Lady Galway Guild. The speakers for the afternoon were Mesdames F. C. Bunny, G. R. Jury, J. F. Thompson and Miss B. Gregor, who by means of a "round table talk" gave an interesting outline of health in the home. On the motion of Mrs Beu they were accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames H. F.east, S. Stevens, Misses Eagar and Udy. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
MINIATURE RIFLES CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS. The following were the scores in the Greytown Miniature Rifle Club’s championship competition last night:— A grade: H. Gray, 69; Miss L. Gray, 69; R. Tilson, 68; R. Ingley, 68; Miss C .Gray, 69; Miss G. Gray, 69; R. Eaton, 69; G. Gray, 65. Badge winner: Miss L. Gray.
B grade: Miss T. Bennett, 69; W. Allen, 69; Miss B. Bennett, 60; E. Bennett, 69; H. Bockett, 68; T. Gray, 65; A. Morgan, 66; R. Gray, 68. Badge winner: W. Allen.
OBITUARY MRS C. JACKSON. The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital this morning of Mrs Christina Jackson, relict of Mr Joseph Jackson. The deceased was 75 years of age, having been born at Pahaua. She was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James McLeod and had lived in the Wairarapa all her life. She had been a resident of Greytown for 7 years. She is survived by three sons (Messrs J. Jackson, Wellington, Samuel and Malcolm Jackson, of Greytown). Personal Items. Mr L. Greathead, of the Post Office staff, left yesterday on transfer to •Eketahuna. Before leaving Greytown the Post Office staff presented him with a fountain pen and pencil. Mr and Mrs J. Robb have returned to Greytown after a holiday visit to Wellington. Mrs W. Cooke and family, of Palmerston North, are the guests of Mrs Duff, Main Street. Mr and Mrs F. Wells, of Wellington, are the guests of Miss Feast, West Street.
